Port of Shanghai

Shanghai is a port city in the Eastern part of China. The port of Shanghai is situated on the Yangtzee river as well as the East China sea.This port has been open for business since it was recognized as a port by the city of Nanking in 1842. Shanghai s one of the largest cities in China with a population of over 20 million. Shanghai is a natural port and allows many ships use both the sea and river harbor to transport goods up and down the Yangtze as well as overseas. It has the unusual distinction of being both a river port and deep sea port, this is what has allowed commerce to flourish. It is one of the main places to ship and receive goods in the Eastern portion of China.

The port of Shanghai has one side facing the East China Sea and the other that faces the port of Hanzhou.

The ability to easily obtain goods and services is something that individuals who live in the city can enjoy as a perk of living in Shanghai. An immense amount of cargo is shipped in and out of the port every year. Some of the various items that are shipped include many different packages and other items that go throughout the world. In 2010 Shanghai surpassed Singapore as being the busiest port in the world. Shanghai shipped over 29.05 TEU's.

Overtime more people have used this port than any other in the world. Shanghai harbor is one that is well known and it's connection not only to the people of China but worldwide makes it popular.The port of Shanghai is managed by the Shanghai International Port which has been the regulatory authority since 2003.

This port as stated previously, is one that is one that is often looked at as a major one in East, West transportation of products and is well utilized as such.

The port of Shanghai has five major working zones. The harbor zones include the Pudong port the Yangtze estuary and the Yanghan deep river port. It also includes the Huang Pu river zone. This allows for greater river traffic to the interior regions as well as the densely populated regions of China. The sea traffic allows for commerce throughout the world. The emphasis on the navigable bodies of water make the Port of Shanghai one of the most versatile and most utilized ports in the world.
